Label: Sounds for Sure
Released: January 7, 2009

In Dust: 2000-2003 is a compilation album of the tracks Dutch solo artist Reptile71 recorded between January 2000 and July 2003.
Reptile71 was influenced by early 80´s new wave, minimal synth, synthpop and post-punk artists such as Joy Division, New Order, The Cure, Depeche Mode, (early) OMD, Talk Talk, (early) Simple Minds and The Wake (UK), but also by more spiritual music like Dead Can Dance.
While dreaming away in a melancholic atmosphere the album tells stories of struggles in relationships and life itself, gives us a glimpse in Reptile's view of life and shares feelings of pain, despair and hope with the listener.

Credits:
Lex van der Schans - bass guitar on Home, Drag and Upside Down; mastering the album
Justin Curfman - Second voice on Always a Way
Jeroen Velthuis - originally wrote Upside Down

So the ‘Godlike geniuses’ The Cure are now back on the Radar of a new generation of music fans, thanks to The NME. If this retrospective appreciation sticks, then Black Poets could be just the band to bridge the gap between the 1980’s post-punk Gothic rock scene and the present. Yes we have Interpol, but these boys are British!

Black Poets are Gerard Lecain (Vocals/Guitar/Songs), Stephen J Good (Guitar), Billy Randall (Bass), and Ben Muckenschnabl (Drums). Although there is no doubt that the New York sound forms a massive influence on this band, Black Poets also hold a flag to British 80s bands like Kitchens of Distinction and The Smiths, with a hint of alternative acts like Logh and The Appleseed Cast.

Innocents and Thieves was produced by Pete Abbott (Editors/ Guillemots/ Athlete/ Spiritualized) by creating an album using nothing but 70’s and 80’s analogue equipment the band have given this album genuine personality, and reinforced the roots of their music. It was then given a modern twist by renowned mastering engineer John Davis (White Lies/ Bloc Party/ Kaiser Chiefs).

So what separates Black Poets from their contemporaries? The band feel it’s Stephen J. Good’s guitar sound, which leaves the listener not with the monotone cocktails of Lecain’s structural guitar parts, but with the virtuosity of more traditional old school acts such as Sabbath and Jeff Beck.

Label: selfreleased
Released: May 19th, 2009

Hard and soft, melodic and beautiful. Influenced by David Bowie, The Velvet Underground and Joy Division.

Everything Changes is the long-awaited third album from Mesa, Arizona’s AUDRA. Recorded over 10 days during the summer of 2008, Everything Changes features 10 killer tracks produced by Grammy-nominee, Robb Vallier, and guest backing vocals from Robin Wilson of the Gin Blossoms.

Based out of Mesa, Arizona, Audra is Bret Helm (vocals, bass), Bart Helm (guitar, piano) and J. DeWolfe (drums, percussion). Audra broke out onto the national scene in 2000 when they signed with indie label, Projekt Records. After two well-received albums and well-over 300 live performances, the band decided to leave Projekt and go back to the ‘do-it-yourself’ approach that started their career in the mid-90s.

Everything Changes is Audra’s first release in 7 years and was recorded in Tempe, AZ at Uranus Recording (owned by Robin Wilson, lead singer of Tempe’s Gin Blossoms), and produced by Robb Vallier (Dave Stewart, Paul McCartney, Wailing Souls, Peter Murphy, R. Kelly).

Much like other ‘family’ bands such as Oasis, The Black Crowes and Jesus & Mary Chain, Audra is fueled by the unique chemistry that is generated from brothers Bret and Bart Helm.

Another interesting side note is that the recording costs of Everything Changes were partially-funded by fan donations from across the globe. The names of all contributors are printed inside the CD booklet.

CD comes in a beautiful, glossy digipak with a 16-page booklet, including lyrics to all 10 songs.

Reviews:

"Post-punk, dark wave provocateurs, Feeding Fingers return with 'Baby Teeth', the follow-up to their widely-acclaimed 2007 effort 'Wound In Wall' yet another fine disc of stripped and naked minimalist post punk... immediately tells the listener that the skies have turned gray, the leaves are turning brown, and snow clouds are billowing on the horizon 'until the end of time... 'Baby Teeth' is the quintessential winter disc for cold and rainy December afternoons... sad, but somehow celebratory tones... mournful and lovely... successfully channeling some of the better moments from Depeche Mode with all the Curfman touches fans have come to expect on a Feeding Fingers disc... maintains a mournful, yet peaceful vibe, occasionally channeling some unexpected moments (such as the driving claustrophobia and paranoia inherent in the stellar track 'No Movement in Water'), as well as the quiet elegance and impending doom of 'Plain Faced Afternoons'."
- Coyote J. at WRZZ-FM & The Birmingham Weekly

"... this album firmly places Feeding Fingers in a multi-talented niche of their own... evokes, like none other, the authentic and classic sounds that smacks of The Cocteau Twins, Siousxie and the Banshees and The Cure..."
- Fiend Magazine (Australia)

"... finally a band that has achieved the unachievable: bringing us back to the sound of the early 80's, clearly influenced by bands from that era but without copying. Feeding Fingers has a very distinctive sound of their own with a singer with an incredible voice... I literally had goosebumps when I heard his voice on 'This Isn't Enough', such power but so controlled, wow!"
- Linda Schenkel (Musicmeter - Holland)

"... on this album Justin Curfman gives everything he's got and it's so beautiful I almost have to cry..."

Label: afmusic
Released: April 7, 2008

The Search is a new wave band from Sweden and they surprise with a very accomplished third album which straight away has a nice atmosphere in single minded songs such as ‘Distant’, ‘Swimmer’ and the impressive ‘Woman in the Corner’. You will easily be able to trace influences from bands like The Cure and New Order and with this the band perfectly connects to the current revival of new wave and postpunk bands, with flag carriers such as Editors and Interpol. The Search however has a more authentic 80’s sound compared to these bands. The atmosphere in the songs is mostly quite light-footed. Razmig Tekeyan has an excellent voice. Some of the songs, like ‘Distant’, ‘Swimmer’ and ‘Song for a Boy, Friends with Toys’ lean over towards pop music and sound somewhat more slick than the others. A song like ‘Netherworld’ reminds strongly of The Sound and the last songs on the album, ‘You Seek Approval in the Wrong People’ and ‘Yes-Man’ are truly sublime, done with so much passion. The Search has managed to deliver with a sound of their own which is firmly rooted in the 80’s and is used to create a new wave album with pop sensibilities and some really strong songs. Highly recommended to fans of new wave music. The recording has been released by the download label AF Music in cooperation with the German Danse Macabre label.
Feeding Fingers is an Atlanta, GA based trio typically characterized as one of the southeast's premiere darkwave/goth/deathrock bands. The group is led by international award-winning animator/multi-media artist, Justin Curfman and supported by bassist Todd Caras (former member of the highly respected Atlanta/Athens, GA groups in a similar vein, Entertainment (eNTERTAINME.NT) and professional veteran percussionist, Danny Hunt.

Their work is reminiscent of early Cure, Depeche Mode, X-Mal Deutschland, Joy Division, Cocteau Twins, etc. with their often minimalist and hypnotic percussive elements... droning yet fluid and dynamic bass structures... heavily sustained guitar work... bizarre dream-inspired lyrics... ("...today I found an animal's mouth in a bag of broken hands..."). They have a definite appeal to those who crave an element of dark surrealism in their music.

((S))) is a mysterious one-man-project from Copenhagen. There are no pictures of either himself or his studio band. Their music nevertheless creates whole worlds. The sinister serenades of the debut “Ghost” switches on your head and set your imagination running wild with its gentle sounds and dreamy sad dancefloor fillers.

Set somewhere in the dynamic field between The Jesus & Mary Chain, The Cure and Tiamat the scandinavian singer’s songs touch and move you. “Mezmerized” and “Fall with me” are catchy wave-jewels, “Naked” and “Dying” full of dark atmoshere. The faboulous Beatles-Cover “Help” gives the impression the original was by Pink Floyd.

Floating above it all is the ghostly voice of (((S))), like Johan Edlund from a far and more “comfortably numb” then David Gilmour. Denmark’s new act will find a lot of friends in the scene. “Ghost” is the ideal soundtrack to an evening with wine and candlelight but also an earthquake on the dancefloor.
